In the case of a dairy cooperative bordering Ecuador in Narino, Colombia, it absolutely made a difference. The partnership with global development actors allowed this cooperative to do the following:
accessing credit for a loan for milk cooling equipment to increase volume and quality of milk for sale
training in animal husbandry, dairy production and farming as a business for all smallholder farmers
marketing support to ensure a secure market for value-addition products such as cheese and butter
When the global development support enhances knowledge and wealth for communities through activities that are not dependent on continued donor funds into the future, then the outcome makes a significant difference into the future.
Are your organization’s global development activities making a long-term difference?
A Thank you from me to some of my most respected mentors @RodrigoBrenes, @VictorGanoza, and @CarlosGavilanes. You made my time in Colombia a tremendous learning experience.
